Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 August 2026
Airsnap is made by SmartSktake Technologies (Pty) Ltd, Durban, South Africa.

This policy is short because Airsnap collects very little. Please read it — it takes two minutes.

"Airsnap never sees your voucher PINs."

Not the numbers, not the serial, not a photo of the slip. Those stay on your phone and are never sent anywhere.

If you choose to help us, Airsnap sends a small amount of anonymous information about how well it read the slip — never what was on it.

You can say no. The app works exactly the same either way.

What stays on your phone, always

These never leave your device, whatever you choose:

Airsnap has no accounts and no login. We never ask who you are.

What we send, only if you agree

When you first scan a voucher successfully, Airsnap asks whether it may send what it learned. If you say yes, it sends:

That is the whole list. There is nothing on it that could identify you, and nothing that could be used to spend your voucher.

You may also choose to tell us your area (for example, which township or town). This is optional, you type it yourself, and Airsnap never asks for location permission or reads your GPS. It helps us learn which vouchers people use where, so the app reads them better.

Why we collect it

One reason: so Airsnap reads slips better.

Every shop's machine prints slips differently, and every phone camera sees them differently. When a scan fails, that failure teaches Airsnap something — but only if we can see it. This information is what turns one person's bad scan into a fix for everyone.

We do not sell it. We do not share it with advertisers. There is no advertising in Airsnap.

Where it goes, and for how long

Data is stored in South Africa, on Google Cloud servers in Johannesburg, and sent over an encrypted connection.

We keep it for 24 months, then delete it. Anonymous statistics worked out from it — such as "this voucher brand is often misread in low light" — may be kept longer, because by then they are no longer about any particular scan.

Your choices

Permissions Airsnap asks for

Camera — to read the voucher slip. It is the only permission Airsnap ever asks you for, and the image never leaves your phone.

Like every app, Airsnap also declares a few permissions Android grants automatically, without asking you: access to the internet, and the ability to tell whether you are online. The internet permission is what sends the anonymous information described above, if you agreed to it. Nothing else uses it.

Airsnap does not ask for location, contacts, storage, phone or SMS permissions, and it does not use an advertising ID.

Children

Airsnap is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If we ever change what Airsnap collects, we will update this page and ask you again in the app. We will not start collecting something new on the strength of a policy you agreed to before it existed.
